VOLUNTARY WORK

Peta collecting medicinal plants seeds at ChandrikaniWe started the voluntary work programme two years ago, but up till now it has been quite disorganised. The organisation is still in its infancy and for various reasons (mainly because we have not had enough resources to employ a full-time volunteer co-ordinator), it has been difficult to organise a structured volunteer programme. In 2004 we hope to be able to settle down into a more predictable routine.

Most of the voluntary work opportunities involve working in the field taking care of vegetables, tree seedlings and medicinal plants. The work that needs to be done varies according to the time of year you visit, i.e. planting in the spring, watering in dry season, weeding in the rainy season and collecting seeds in the autumn. Sara collecting vulnerable pine seedlings from the side of the roadWe are also open to people's ideas, especially if you have certain skills that you think may be of help to us.

As well as voluntary work in the field, we often need help in the office, writing proposals, reports, marketing medicinal plants etc. As the medicinal plant extension system grows, there will be many opportunities to become involved with the work of the extension group, as well as other NGOs working in the area.

For more specific information on voluntary work opportunities, you can read about each project in the projects section.
