VOLUNTARY WORK - Medicinal Plants

The voluntary work opportunities in 2004 will vary depending on the time of year you come and the stage of development we have reached. Most of 2003 was spent developing the main medicinal plant nursery above Chajogi village, volunteers weeding a field of saussurea lappa with local womenwhich has now been planted with many seeds and root cuttings that will germinate in the spring (see nursery development).

Throughout 2004 we will be maintaining this nursery as well as bringing more planting material from the forest. Given a little bit of training, volunteers can be very helpful with this.

There is a lot of scope for voluntary work in helping set up the extension system, in putting together training material, trying to make sense of EU regulations and put it together in a understandable language etc. We also need to take many photographs, and therefore a photographer can be of great help. Certain photographs, i.e. of the different areas that each NGO is working in, may involve a bit of trekking. Occasionally we may also be in need of someone with a digital video camera to help us document the work of certain groups working with SAHARA.
