OBJECTIVES OF THE ANANDA SOCIETY

The Ananda Society was registered in Kullu on the 6th April 2002 under the Societies Registration Act 1860. The objectives for which the Society was formed are as follows:

  1. To help the population of the Kullu District preserve and regenerate their natural resources and to develop land management practices that will help them meet their economic, environmental and social needs in a sustainable manner.
  2. To raise environmental awareness and educate local people about issues relating to sustainable development in the Kullu District.
  3. To encourage community participation in projects that contribute towards the protection and regeneration of natural resources.
  4. To encourage and facilitate co-operation between villagers, NGOs and government bodies working towards sustainable development in the Kullu District.
  5. To promote voluntary work through ecotourism in the Kullu District, educating those in the tourism industry about their responsibility towards protecting the environment.
  6. To involve schools with environmental projects, thereby raising awareness among younger generations
  7. To promote and support cultural activities and spiritual development, with special emphasis on yoga, meditation, arts, handicrafts and music.
  8. To foster greater understanding between different cultures and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge related to sustainable forms of economic, environmental and social development.
  9. To receive funds from both domestic and foreign sources in order to implement community based projects that contribute towards the eight objectives written above.
